I put the finishing touches on another teaser. This time I collaborated with my father, Writer-Director, Lawrence Scott, and Executive Producers David Weinburg and Clay Kraski. Lawrence directed and co-wrote this feature-length documentary “Sea Nymph: Sailing Into Insanity,” about a 2017 media sensation Jennifer Appel. Jennifer and her friend Tasha Fuiaba made international headlines when they and Jennifer’s two dogs were rescued at sea after being adrift in the Pacific Ocean for five months when their sailboat lost the ability to steer. Jennifer’s story is being produced by Executive Producers and story rights owners Clay Kraski and David Weinburg.
Luckily, for this project, I was involved with shooting some of the key interviews by acting as the media manager and B camera operator. So going into an edit such as this was a little easier having already known some of the key material. Dewayne Bontrager of Twiin Media in Atlanta, GA was the DP for all the principal photography. Dewayne’s camera choice was the DJI Ronin 4D 4-Axis cinema camera and he managed to pull off some amazing imagery with that rig. And when it came time for color correcting the locked picture on DaVinci Resolve’s color page, I took full advantage of the camera’s ability to shoot 14 stops of dynamic range. And matching the Ronin 4D to the B-cam’s Panasonic GH5 was an easy task.
I also worked with Co-Producer Kobi Gartner in sourcing additional stock imagery, news footage, archival footage, and various music tracks. EP Clay Kraski is a key contributor to Jennifer’s story outline and archival. He adds creative witty commentary while on camera and he captured a majority of the behind the scenes footage or the day to day life of Jennifer often in a vérité like style. All in all, it was a fun project to work on and I hope that with this awesome teaser that this team produced, a presale will be more than likely.
The producers are currently shopping the film project and seeking a distribution presale, and with that said I can only share a small snippet of some of the work I did on the reel.
